As we head into the Christmas period we (Ronin Budo Instructor Team) want to wish you all a very happy Christmas and prosperous New Year.
Christmas is a time for contemplation as well as celebration. In many cultures it is a time of rest as the winter has set in and rural lifestyles are on hold for the most part until Spring is upon us. They have plans for the future but during this time it is possible to have some rest and recuperation.
For us as martial arts practitioners there is still the thought of training and practice, many only take a short time off, others a little longer. But contemplating goals is a good thing to do at this point. What have you achieved this year and what will the goals be next year? As a club Ronin Budo has made some big strides forwards in all
of our practices, kickboxing, karate and weapons training. We have won awards, had some success at competitions, increased our membership and had some very successful outcomes in all parts of the club, including new dan grades and instructors.
The National Wellness six dimensions model at the bottom of this has several aspects to it, the different parts of our lives, are all of these in balance? And do they all need thought prior to goal setting? It is something that I personally do. I like to play around with setting different tasks around the whole model that then lead to a big step forward in my overall wellness and wellbeing and achieving something of a personal step forward that links to my job, physicality etc. It may not be for everyone but something to think about. If you fail to plan there is a
school of thought that you plan to fail. In our lives do we think about where are going and what we want to be?
If we do then we are far more likely to be improved versions of ourselves next year at this time, martial arts like karate and kickboxing can help develop goals that are life affirming and developmental. This year set some targets in training, determine to be something more and the training will be more fun and directed. I have
already thought about mine, some of this is due to my job and having to have done so, but other parts are not.
Within the club we can work together to achieve these things.
Have a wonderful Christmas and a prosperous and healthy New Year.
Dr Charles Spring and all the team at Ronin Budo.
